It was also briefly revealed by Head of AR and VR Facebook, Ficus Kirkpatrick. In an interview, he said there was a possibility that devices made by Facebook in the future did not need to rely on Google's operating system.

"We do not trust the marketplace or competitors to provide special space. So, we will do it ourselves," he said in the interview.

To note, at this time Facebook only has two devices made, namely Oculus and Portal. However, the two devices still rely on Android that has been modified.

Therefore, Facebook is said to want to take Apple's approach in hardware development, namely by making its own operating system.

Secretly Facebook Releases the Meme Whale Maker Application

Apart from the information above, Facebook is also known to have released a new application to create a meme called Whale. According to reports, Whale is currently only available in the Canadian app store.

In the description said, Whale has the ability to edit photos or images from stock photos.

Whale also allows users to apply filters, crop (crop), and add emojis and stickers to their photos.

Users can then share their meme creations on social media Facebook, Instagram and the Messenger messaging application.

Whale is part of Facebook's experimental application, just like Moments, Notify, Lifestage, Poke, Slingshot, Tbh, Moves, and Hello.

Citing The Verge page, Wednesday (11/21/2019), Whale was developed by the New Product Experimentation (NPE) team.

The team was formed in early 2019 with the aim of developing experimental applications to support Facebook.

NPE Team Develops New Applications

At that time, Facebook said that it would use a separate brand to make various other applications that develop quickly, and even delete the application if deemed useless.

Previously, NPE also released other applications such as Bump and Aux.

A Facebook spokesman said the applications are intended to help companies find new features and services that users like.

Facebook experiments with new applications come after the success of TikTok.

In the past two and a half years, after being released outside of China, TikTok has become a popular source of memes that have spread across cyberspace.

In fact, so far this year TikTok has managed to add more than 500 million users. TikTok is said to have 1.5 billion users worldwide.
